Adam Driver is officially out as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic in the highly anticipated Marvel reboot of the Fantastic Four. The rumor making the rounds is that Driver wanting a high salary to join the comic book adaptation and the powers to be were not willing to accept it so he passed. That said, those close in the inner circle are now claiming they are locking in on another A+ talent to take the role.
Comic Book Movie is reporting now that House of the Dragon and The Crown star Matt Smith has been offered the role. While this is mostly smoke, CBM believes that there is actually a lot of fire behind it. Director Matt Shakman wants a known name in the Hollywood circles to play Reed Richards and Matt Smith’s spotlight is large right now with is recent TV roles.
It would appear that Marvel is focused on finding the right foursome of actors to bring Fantastic Four to life on the big screen this time around. It was previously reported that the studio was focusing on finding Sue Storm and then building the rest of the cast around her. One contender online for that role is Vanessa Kirby, who expressed her interest in becoming the Invisible Woman. But perhaps Reed Richards will be the first member of the team that’s cast after all.
The last actor to play Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic was one that fans had been requesting for years on the message boards. John Krasinski was cast in a cameo role by director Sam Raimi in his Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Also, if you are not aware, Disney’s $71.3 billion acquisition of 20th Century Fox meant that Marvel will now own the rights to the characters from the X-Men catalog, as well as the Fantastic Four series/characters — rights Marvel sold in the late ’90s to avoid bankruptcy.
The next MCU movie hitting theaters is The Marvels on November 10th.
