In an interview with Collider.com, John Cho divulged that the third installment in the Harold and Kumar series, entitled A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas, is moving forward and will start filming this June. It is slated to hit theaters on November 5, 2010 (You can add this to the long list of sequels premiering this year!).
New Line Cinema is in the process of selecting a director for the film while Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg are developing the screenplay. Hurwitz and Schlossberg wrote the first two movies, Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle and Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.
Although both Cho and Kal Penn are expected to reprise their roles as Harold and Kumar, respectively, the jury is still out on Penn's attachment to the film since he joined President Obama's administration to serve as a liaison to Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities. I would be very surprised if the project went out without him, though...
And, since I know it is on the forefront of all of your minds: there is speculation that Neil Patrick Harris will indeed return for the third movie!
While no plot details have been revealed, the film supposedly picks up a few years after Harold and Kumar escaped from Guantanamo and is truly a holiday movie (involving pre-Christmas shenanigans, I'm sure). Here's hoping this one lives up to the hilarity of the first two!
